FormscanBy Michael Graham - The main protagonists will all fancy their chances in this race. Sub Lieutenant is the highest rated on 145 - 7lbs and 9lbs above Shadow Catcher and Venitien De Mai and that is the weight he has to give both rivals. VENITIEN DE MAI might come out best. He was progressive in the last campaign from winning a beginners' chase at Down Royal to landing the Leinster National at Naas. On just his fifth start over fences, he then competed in the Irish Grand National and wasn't disgraced in finishing ninth to Rogue Angel. That was his last run but he looks a chaser to go to war with this season. His win in the north came over two and a half miles and he has enjoyed a visit to this track before when winning his maiden hurdle. Sub Lieutenant is coming off a slightly shorter break from towards the end of April when third in the Grade One champion novice chase at Punchestown. He has plenty of form in graded company and now runs for Henry de Bromhead. He has won off a six-month break before and should be right in the thick of the action. Pairofbrowneyes is a former course and distance winner with race fitness on his side. He was placed in two Grade A handicap chases at Punchestown within the space of three days in April, which was no mean feat. He could run a big race.
