She was very impressive and is a nice prospect. When we looked at the race beforehand, we thought it looked like a winning opportunity for her. She was going well when she came down at Cork, and no better man than Keith to get her jumping today and get some confidence back in her. She's a Listed bumper winner, so you'd be hoping that she'd well up to winning a maiden hurdle, and she's done it nicely. Keith mentioned the Grade 3 mares' novice at Down Royal in late October, so that's a possible target. Brian Walsh, who's one of the (Galloping Gallivanters) syndicate, bred her as well, so that makes it even better.

We gave him a run back in Roscommon but hadn't had him away schooling, and he chipped in plenty that day,. He came on today, he was very fresh and stuck his neck out. Willie's (Mullins' runner-up Reaching High) made a mistake at the last but we also got in close to it, but were quickly away. There is a for sale sign on him.

I suppose the ground has been against him over hurdles, he was keen and took a few runs to get going and just settle. I think he was getting his tongue over the bit, so it wasn't the case that he was nervous and I had the tongue-tie on him but he has no wind problems. I know this track well and had a good mare, Hidden Land, who was keen and here suits those type of horses. You can let them roll and they get a breather up the hill. Hopefully, he will show his potential as he had good form in Germany and actually finished seventh in a German Derby (of 20 runners in 2023). He is just a work in progress and, on better ground he can mix it between Flat and hurdles. He had run in a couple of schooling races and we were hoping that the track and better ground could bring out improvement. Donagh gave him a lovely ride and it worked out. Hopefully, he can be a nice horse who can progress and he could be competitive in some of those nice (Flat) handicaps, so we could bring to England. We wanted to get that winner on the board because we weren't busy last winter.

magic blinkers, maybe I’ll put a pair on myself! . He deserved that as he was running honest the whole time, but just not getting home. The blinkers made a difference. He’s highly rated so he’s hard to place and that was better than going to Plumpton, or somewhere, for a £1,500 maiden hurdle. It’s been a lucky spot for us, racing west of the Shannon is a great job. There is a novice chase in Sligo next week or he could go to Listowel for a Flat race. He decides himself, but he’s not the worst to have around the place. He was bought for another job (Flat racing), but he’s not doing us any harm and is paying his way.

It was a dramatic start, but he was in a lovely position. Turning for home, Jack obviously picked off the horse (Baila Conmigo) that was leading him up the hill. We knew he would stay really well. He had a bit of time off, but he has built on every run so far this season and it is lovely to see him do that because he deserved it. He had a handicap mark (105), but it was nice to go back and try and win a maiden with him because we were confident he was capable of doing that.

That is job done although it wasn't an easy watch. Ben said he probably wants further and made hard work of it. His jumping had been letting him down every day, but he is gradually getting better. He is far from a natural jumper and lost a lot of ground today, but he has an engine. I bought him for €6,000 (out of John ODonoghue's yard) and thankfully the (Del Boy) syndicate, who are great supporters of ours, bought him. I'm delighted for Ben, too, who is a big part of our yard and schools all our horses and rides work.
