I'm delighted with him and we were noticing in his work recently that while he isn't the quickest horse, if you hold him up, he has a bit of a gear. I told Eoghan to ride his own race, he knew they would go quick and I told him to take our beating if it didn't work out. He gave him a lovely confident ride for a 7lb claimer. Our horses are in good form, we liked the way he was going at home and while I didn't want to put pressure on anybody, we were just getting started today. He'll go over fences soon as he can utilise his four-year-old allowance and is a lovely big type. He is a Flat horse really but just doesn't look like one, and has now won two hurdle races.

At the request of the Raceday Stewards, P.T. Smithers, rider of Malikanna, trained by Padraig Roche, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was outpaced for most of the race and kept on in the closing stages.
An extended handicap hurdle for four years old and upwards (110 = 11st 12lbs)
Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap shall carry 7lb extra for each hurdle race won.
Riders - Confined to Professional Riders under I.N.H.S. Rules who have not lost the right to claim the 7lb allowance under Rule 52. Allowances - (which are not cumulative, up to and including 18th March) Riders who have not ridden the winner of a *race allowed..........4lb; Those who have not ridden the winners of 5 *races allowed........2lb.
