FormscanBy Mark Nunan - Any horse acquired by the ultra-shrewd Paul Byrne is of automatic interest and BACKMERSACKME is taken to make a winning start for his new connections. The son of Getaway was snapped up for 70,000 pounds at Cheltenham in December after winning his second start in point-to-points at Moig South the previous month. Colonel Nelson is a half-brother to a couple of jumps winners and made a promising start to his career when runner-up in a point-to-point at Ballycrystal in January. His trainer has handled plenty of good bumper horses over the years. Rock On Jet, related to plenty of winners, chased home the selection at Moig South and was again runner-up more recently at Ballyragget. He's another that has to come into calculations.
An I.N.H. flat race for four, five and six years old only that have not won a race under any N.H. Rules or Rules of Racing and that have been placed first, second, third or fourth in a maiden Point-To-Point Steeplechase since 1st October, 2023

Riders - Qualified Riders under I.N.H.S. Rules All horses running in this race must hold a current Hunters Certificate. A Hunter Certificate valid in accordance with Rule 78 for the 2023/2024 season for each horse engaged must be registered at the Offices of the I.N.H.S. Committee, The Curragh, Co. Kildare not later than 26th March or the horse will not be qualified to start. The IHRB have suspended the relevant part of Rule 78 to enable horses which run in this race (excluding the winner) to retain their Hunters Certificate for the remainder of the 2023/2024 season. HRI Directive 10 has been suspended for the purpose of this race and the following procedures for elimination and balloting of horses will apply. (i) The number of declared runners shall be reduced by first balloting those horses that have not won a Point-To-Point steeplechase since 1st October, 2023. (ii) The number of horses declared will be then reduced by balloting those horses that have not won more than one Point-To-Point steeplechase since 1st October, 2023. (iii) In the event of Paragraphs (i) and (ii) not achieving the recommended limit a random ballot will then be applied to the remaining horses. Upco
