She was in season yesterday morning but Evan Arkwright (Commercial Manager at the Curragh) rang me just before 10am to say there was only four in the race and we said we’d take our chance. Everything was in her favour today with the ground and the trip. That is my biggest winner, and we’ll go to Royal Ascot now for the Duke Of Cambridge.
Andrew Slattery
She is a great filly to train, and has won her last four now which is not an ideal preparation for a premier handicap,. She's tough and Declan said she didn't handle the track and was hanging. She's in the Matron Stakes and we'll probably let her take her chance now. That will probably be her next race. She keeps improving and, while she goes on any ground, she loves soft ground. She loves racing, and if you leave her out in a paddock she will try to come out over the railing. She will be kept in training next year, and may go to Royal Ascot. We always felt she was a mile and a quarter filly, and she will step up to that trip next year. She has such a high cruising speed that she could make all over five furlongs.
Andrew Slattery
I previously won the Cork Sprint with An Saighdiur and that's my second Listed winner. I was hoping the ground would be a bit softer but she is tough and keeps at it. Not everyone is a fan of (sire) Rip Van Winkle but I love them and couldn't get enough of them. She is tough and genuine and just wants to please. I'll keep Planchart for the Corrib Stakes at Galway and give this one a little break now. We were hoping to be third for black-type but to win was a real bonus. I have 25 flat horses riding out at the moment - that's the biggest string. I'm still selling and will be looking for new stock again soon.
Andrew Slattery
that was great and I thought she had improved after the last day; she's getting stronger. I thought the handicapper had made a mistake with his finger by putting her up 9lb but he was right — he usually is!. We've always liked her and the owner has a wish to run her in a Listed race. She has some business running in one (Listed race) now and it would be great if we could get her placed. She has won on good to firm and is versatile but the softer the better for her. For her to have a chance in a Listed race she'd want it more or less unraceable as she goes through it.
Andrew Slattery
She was entered at Chester on Friday in a seven-furlong race but the vet said she might be in season by Friday so we came here. We didn't know if she would stay a mile as she's a free running sort. We said we would run and she either stays or she doesn't - she obviously stays. She was very unlucky in a big handicap here on Champions Weekend when she got knocked down. She looked like she would be involved that day. We might look at the big handicap at Galway. The owner is looking to get black-type but she's only rated 75 so I'll try and hold him off and be realistic for a while. She won on good ground at Leopardstown but I think she does like a dig. We'll try and win again with her and then go for a nice handicap. If she could get third in a little Listed race on bottomless ground somewhere it would be great.
Andrew Slattery
The ground was my biggest fear, and I wouldn't like to run her on that kind of ground again. She may head to Listowel and hopefully we can get soft ground there. I've been waiting for soft ground but not getting it. I think she will improve over the winter as she still has to fill out and strengthen up.
Andrew Slattery
I gave her a chance as it was an open enough race. I was going to go for the Dubai Duty Free Summer (Fillies) Handicap at the Curragh on Saturday but she was four pounds out of the handicap. But if she bounces out in the morning, and we get some rain, she could still run.
Andrew Slattery
