You only dream of Galway festivals winners! I was confident of a good run but, being a restricted trainer, you can never be too confident being up against Willie Mullins and all the rest of them. I have my license for four years, my horses are running well and this mare has been tearing up the gallops at home. I knew we were in for a good run, but to win you can't expect it against the big guns. I had always been pre-training and breaking horses so gave away horses to everyone else. I then had too many and couldn't give them away, so I took out the license. I had been winning mostly with my own horses but Pat (Kelly, owner) gave this mare to me when she was rated 64 and she has won from 81 today. She is going through the ranks and this is brilliant.

I was just a bit worried about the draw (in 8). That's her second win for me now and we'll see what the handicapper gives us. I'd say we will still be in the 70s and I might look at Derby weekend, where there's a 0-80 for her. We'll see how she comes out of this.

After race at Leopardstown Fri, 16th May, 2025 (1st)
We were confident coming up here and she ran well in Navan on good ground. It was a bit too soft on her last two runs. All her wins before were over seven but I didn’t doubt that she would get the mile. She has plenty of toe so we can also drop back to seven. We’ll freshen her up and look for something again in about a month. We should have a bit of fun with her during the summer. That’s my first winner at Leopardstown. I had a winner at the Curragh before and it’s great to get winners at the big tracks.

It's great to give the syndicate their first winner,. It was set up by the former Galway manager, Anthony Cunningham. He put it together with GAA referee Brian Gavin. They decided to set up their own racing syndicate and this is a great start for them with their first horse on just her second run for them. They hope to expand and have another one in the pipeline. Hopefully this filly can give them a bit of craic for the summer. The syndicate has a GAA slant and the members are spread across the country.
