Earlier on the card Bill Durkan's odds-on shot Fairbanks had to yield to Gordon Elliott's Timeless Treaty, but there was a role reversal in the Club Orange Beginners Chase at Down Royal with Baltic Bird coming out on top. Mon 05th May
Paddy Cleary rides first winner on promising Elliott first-timer
Split one wasn't good for many punters with a 20/1 surprise and there wasn't much respite for the majority in the Ballygowan Maiden Hurdle (DIV II) at Down Royal. Fairbanks (evens into 4/6) couldn't resist Timeless Treaty at the business end, with the pair clear as Paddy Cleary booted home his first winner. Mon 05th May

He’s a nice horse, he did it well,. He won well in Down Royal when we didn’t really fancy him, we didn’t know much about him. I thought he was gutsy today because he was headed and came back, he was tough. I suppose we’ll probably end up going for a novice at Galway now. I thought that was even a better performance today because he had to do all the donkey work in front, he was headed and then had to come back.
