Permission was given for Toronet (FR) to wear a red hood to post.
The stewards held an enquiry into the reasons behind why Jamie Brace, the rider of Wild Nephin (GB), which was pulled up sharply having apparently gone wrong before jumping the third hurdle had then continued to ride the gelding back.
The rider, Trainer and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed, and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The rider explained that he felt that something was amiss with the gelding having jumped the second hurdle, which he reported at Scales, and felt it prudent on the grounds of welfare to pull the gelding up before jumping another flight.
He further stated that he felt he had more control over the gelding by riding it home with the field being due to pass him again on the second circuit.
The Veterinary Officer stated that the gelding had twisted its left-fore shoe but was sound having been trotted up post race.
Brace’s explanation was noted.
The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Owl Of Athens (IRE), which had never previously been placed, was considered.
Evan Williams was interviewed, and his comments were forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority so they that could be reviewed in conjunction with the previous performances of Owl Of Athens (IRE), and the gelding was routine tested.
