Navan Sat, 21st Mar, 2026  Shabby Hill He stayed on great, he is a brilliant jumper. He (jockey Philip Byrnes) kept rowing away, I'd say the ones in front stopped. He got a lovely lead. We didn't know what to expect, so it was a pleasant surprise. You could see him over three miles, he will make a nice chaser. We'll get him home and we'll see where next, he wants a bit of cut.

Clonmel Thu, 26th Feb, 2026  Mount Frisco I thought we had Courtney's horse (Is Charlie Around) well stuffed at the second-last, and Dan said he hadn't moved on him. He said he thought he'd have won anyway. He stays and I'd say he needs three miles, and every yard of it. We nearly lost him in Listowel (in September 2024) and he was on three legs for six months afterwards. He is back to himself now, though, and will go for a Listed chase at Gowran next month, in which he finished second in 2024. He'll take beating in that race as he loves the heavy ground, but he also goes on good ground. He is a huge horse. His dam is a half-sister to Commanche Court and I love those Kalanisis.

He damaged nerves in his shoulder which was difficult to repair and my daughter Gillian has done a lot of work with him. We have a good chiropractor Marie Fitzgerald coming in and she is great, and Dan King gave him a brilliant ride today.

Punchestown Mon, 12th Jan, 2026  Shabby Hill I’d say he’ll be a nice horse when he steps up to three miles. We bought him in Goresbridge, he had won a point-to-point, and he got a few bits of injuries. That’s why he was late coming out. I’m delighted for the owner Peter Mackin, who is from Newry. His patience has paid off, thank God. He was maybe over-jumping if anything and I’d say jumping fences will maybe be his forte in time. I don’t get carried away with them but I do think he’ll make a nice three-mile chaser.

Punchestown Wed, 31st Dec, 2025  Sammy Smart That’s huge as we buried Paddy Melarkey, who owned him along with Kevin (Haigney), only a few days ago. It was always going to be emotional whether he won it or not. You can’t beat a bit of divine intervention. He loves Punchestown and ran really well back in Thurles last month. He tends to need a good gap between his races. I thought this might be on the short side, but it worked out well and James was very strong on him.

We were afraid of the 'bounce' but, thank God, it worked out. He has had a lot of injuries and has very little miles for his age. He'll go chasing at some stage and might be better over fences if he takes to it. We're delighted to have a Christmas winner.
