I’ve always liked him. The last day he was a bit green and it turned into a sprint, but he was actually staying on well again at the line. He was much more professional today and he had strengthened up a lot. He’s a nice horse to look forward to and I think he could be a good horse. I was saying to the lads there that I wouldn’t be afraid to give him an entry in the Cheltenham bumper. We’ve always liked him and that’s not a surprise. He’s a grand simple horse and you need something like that to be able to go over and do things right in the race. I think he has the right mindset. Gavin Patrick Cromwell, trainer

The Raceday Stewards interviewed Mr P.A. Murphy, rider of Layenda, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted he was in breach and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards found Mr. P.A. Murphy was in breach of R.10.3 (b) (out of contention) and in considering his clean record in this regard they suspended him for two racedays.

An I.N.H. flat race for four years old and upwards that have not won a race under any N.H. Rules or Rules of Racing (excluding Academy Hurdles and 3-y-o Junior N.H. Hurdles)
Weights - 4-y-o 11st 2lbs 5-y-o and up 12st. Mares allowed 7lbs.
Riders - Qualified Riders under I.N.H.S. Rules. Professional Riders under I.N.H.S. Rules (other than Apprentices) who have not lost the right to claim the 7lb allowance under Rule 52 (up to and including 30th January) may also ride in this race. Not more than 20 runners will be permitted to run in this race.
