Formscan By Shane Redmond - CHURCHWARDEN (5) landed quite a gamble when a runaway winner over this course and distance early last month and might just follow up if turning out again after his narrow defeat in a handicap hurdle here on Thursday evening. He scored by all of 10 lengths on his most recent Flat start and is likely to remain competitive despite a 12lb hike in the ratings. Marmeladova is certainly far better than she showed at the Curragh last Sunday. The ground certainly won’t be as quick here and the step back up in trip should suit. Her form ties in with Daboya and Merlin The Wizard and with any luck in running, she might be up to finishing ahead of them both this time.

She is a great fun mare who brings her owners to all these places and is dual-purpose, so she can go back over hurdles as well, when the rain comes. I'd imagine Galway will be next for another Flat race, as she hasn't enough experience for a handicap hurdle yet. . Colin is class, and knows what he is doing all the time. I told Dylan to pop out and be handy, and to settle him where he was comfortable, and he gave him a brilliant ride. I was happy watching it, because I knew it was going to be hard for the fancied ones to come from the back. The last day when he won (at Limerick) it turned into a three-furlong sprint and he was tapped for toe a bit, so I wanted him to be handy and that's usually the way to ride them around here. His owners are from Galway and that's the plan for him now. It will be more competitive there, but this was a nice race to win anyway. We just have 10 stables in the yard, and that's as many as I want. Luckily we've managed to find one or two decent horses most years and if they're good enough, I feel I'm good enough to train them.

A lot of things were right for him today although we were lucky we had him entered before he won on the Flat at Ballinrobe. He likes good ground and the tracks which are usually good, or better. He was allowed to dictate, Dan (King) was able to get a 'fill' and used pole position well. I knew the owners the Corner House Syndicate would all be here as they are local in Tallow and they have been getting a great kick out of the horse.

It is a real local winner and it's great to see Robert Dooly leading him in. There are people involved from all over the country in Pimlico Racing, but plenty from Waterford and Tramore and this horse was bought specifically to win this race. Pimlico are great supporters of ours and the game, and they do a really good job. Nathaniel Barnett and Tom Raine bought him, and sent him to us to have a go. After his previous run in Clonmel, I thought we would struggle, so I am delighted for everyone and Gary (Carroll) gave him a super spin. The (first-time) blinkers had the desired effect and he is a lovely horse who also jumps well.
