Formscan By Gary Carson - MODE AVION was an impressive winner in handicap company at Fairyhouse last month and this looks like a nice opportunity to bag a follow up win. The French-bred gelding eased down for a comprehensive success then and was put up to a mark of 128, which sets the standard now. Kilmeaden is rated only a couple of pounds inferior and is the obvious danger. He was a touch disappointing last time at Naas when beaten favourite but was good previously in Punchestown. The maiden Dschingis Desire gets the allowances and is another that has to come into calculations.
A hurdle for four years old only that have not won more than one hurdle race (excluding Academy Hurdles and 3-y-o Junior N.H. Hurdles)

We went to Sedgefield the last day when it was game over after only one hurdle, as he was too keen. When Fitzy (Fitzgerald) got down off him, I told him that no matter what, we had to settle him the next day. At Sedgefield, he was keen and also ran off one bend but was still only beaten 15 lengths by the winner, who came out and won by 11 lengths the next day. The third horse also won since so looking at it in black and white afterwards, it was a good race. Today I told him that if he gets him asleep, have one good go and that he would come up the hill, and he did. The first day he ran over hurdles we had doubts about him staying and he was back in distance today. We'll worry about plans next week.

To be honest, it didn’t look the strongest race in the world. It was a good performance, but it was a good opportunity,. I think he’s come on a bit from Thurles (third there last month), he’s a grand horse. We might jump a fence with him sooner rather than later. We might try and use his four-year-old allowances over fences, he jumps great.
