Formscan By Michael Graham - LENJOLEUR DE PALMA (4) appreciates plenty of cut, but does have a close third from Limerick on better ground in the book. He is coming off a break, but represents a stable that targets this festival. Metamorpheus has been in a real consistent vein of form virtually all year. The only time he has finished out of the first four in 2026 was on his opening run at Punchestown in January. He picked up a victory on the Flat at Sligo in May and there was merit in his runner-up spot in the valuable Galway Tribes at the festival. Churchwarden holds the same rating of 108 as Metamorpheus and has had a decent summer which saw him win the Tramore Derby by a big margin.

It is a real local winner and it's great to see Robert Dooly leading him in. There are people involved from all over the country in Pimlico Racing, but plenty from Waterford and Tramore and this horse was bought specifically to win this race. Pimlico are great supporters of ours and the game, and they do a really good job. Nathaniel Barnett and Tom Raine bought him, and sent him to us to have a go. After his previous run in Clonmel, I thought we would struggle, so I am delighted for everyone and Gary (Carroll) gave him a super spin. The (first-time) blinkers had the desired effect and he is a lovely horse who also jumps well.

That’s fantastic as he’s been a very tricky horse and was a runaway on the Flat. I said to Shane to ride him four lengths last, to try and sit there as long as he could but if he was getting keen on him not to disappoint him. The owners are great. The Sloans are from the north and it’s the first horse they’ve had with me. A special mention to William Jones, who is from Dubai and married to one of my best friends. He’s maybe had a couple of unlucky days,. He was a bit unlucky in Listowel one day and then he ran into one in Bellewstown. We were 11 lengths in front of the favourite (Obscenity) then but still got chinned by one. He’s had some lovely runs and he deserved to get a win under his belt. At Ballinrobe the last day it just didn’t work out, he had a bad draw and they went slow. He’s a nice straightforward horse and you’d be hoping there is more to come from him. He’s big and doesn’t have the most amazing action so I’d say a bit of juice helped and this is probably his ideal ground. We went hurdling with him, which didn’t really work out, but we’ll probably give it a go again at some stage. He schooled well but didn’t jump well in his runs. We’ll probably stick to the Flat for the moment and hopefully there is another day in him.

His run at Limerick (runner-up last month) was lovely and solid and, if he came forward at all, he'd have won today's race which wasn't the best on paper.
