Formscan By Michael Graham - KILLOWEN HOUSE (10) showed that he should have a future in handicaps when a close second over further in Ballinrobe. The winner has gone in again since to boost the form. That handicap debut run built upon solid maiden hurdle efforts at Roscommon and, in particular, at Galway. First Ascent is sure to be popular after hacking up in a Kilbeggan maiden hurdle. He is up in trip on handicap debut, but James Smith claims a handy 5lb. In For The Night also brings Kilbeggan winning-form to the fray. This trip will be no problem to him and he appreciates good ground. Carrigg Island's last run saw him finish third in a Listed novice hurdle at Limerick, however, he has been off for almost a year.

We were disappointed with him in Listowel (seventh in the Lartigue Hurdle) as I thought he'd nearly win but he got in behind horses and didn't enjoy it. Katie (his wife) had ridden him in a bit of work before Listowel and he galloped really well so his run was a bit of a head-scratcher. We talked about it and she was adamant that Shane should give him room on the outside today. He has loads of ability and the softer ground helped.

he won his bumper here the same way, when he came down the hill he showed a good turn of foot, was interested in what he was doing and went on and won,. His jumping was pretty ok, I think he'll be sharper the next day but I'm delighted with him. He is a grand horse and is a half-brother to (stablemate) Unexpected Depth. We have no plan and came here today to see how he'd behave and perform. I'd say he'll run at Christmas but I'm not sure he likes heavy ground, yielding or soft ground probably suits him.

I have a lot of supporters and this is my first winner, so is the start of it. I had the choice of coming here or going to Killarney so I'm delighted to be here. He had a few good runs so I was hoping for his right ground and hoped he would break from the stalls and make the running. It turned out he got things his own way. He had a look around but when he straightened him up around the final bend, he knew it was home he was bound. We collected our money so that's what it is all about! He was well-backed each-way and was a good price. I have six horses in at the moment and have two or three syndicates locally in Askeaton, including lads who own the Top Of The Town Pub. I haven't got him all that long. We ran him for the first time since Dessie (McDonogh) retired in Clonmel, and he ran well. I was a little worried about the ground tonight, I thought it might be a little quick, but all the lads said it was good and safe with a nice bit of juice in it. He handled it well. It is great to win primarily because of the owners involved and they have been very patient with the horse and with me, as we had been disappointed with how he had done over hurdles up until now. He is my first horse for them and I told them he was a nice horse, so they were very good to trust me. You can see he is not a natural hurdler and jumps a lot better over a chase fence, so that's where he'll be going next, I'd say. . I had been disappointed with him since his bumper win but there is still a nice horse in him and he has much better use of himself over a chase fence. Today's distance (2m4f) is his minimum and he will come into his own over three miles-plus.

He won well. It was a messy sort of a race, he was settling grand but it just got a bit messy and he went on with him,. He did everything right, it wasn’t much of a race but it was great to win with him. He jumped well, he got in tight to one or two but on the whole you’d be happy enough. I’m hoping the handicapper doesn’t do a whole lot to him, I don’t think he should off the back of that race. He’s quite keen in his races, he thinks he’s quicker than he is. I know he has run over further but he didn’t win. You’d just like to see him doing things right. I don’t know how he’s going to handle slower, winter, ground. It’s grand that he’s won a race.

That was brilliant and I'm delighted for Seamus and the family, who have put a lot of belief in me. They have stuck with me so long and I believe this horse is much better than what he has shown so far. I'm from Germany, have been in Ireland nearly 13 years and have a show-jumping background. I decided to change at the end of 2012 and came across Mark Molloy (trainer) who asked me had I ever ridden a thoroughbred and I said no, so stayed with him and fell in love with the point-to-pointers. I learned a lot from Mark and then moved to Henry De Bromhead where I also learned a lot, so then jumped and did it on my own. I'm mainly focused on point-to-pointers, only have a couple of runners for the track and am based in Nenagh, in Tom Hogan's yard. I have loads of young stock coming along and have plenty good owners so without them I couldn't do it. Seamus and his family are from Ballina/Killaloe and I have a couple of young horses for them too so this is brilliant.

We knew he was fit, he ran in a schooling race there recently and went well. We'll keep tipping away with him. Danny is very lucky for us. Danny is a past master at those front-racing tactics. This horse is owned by a great, long-standing friend of mine called Hugh Laing. He hasn't been very well of late, so I hope this gives him a boost. He had (kept a bit under the bonnet). We ran him in a hood today and he probably wasn't as hard on himself.
