Newmill Traded At 649-1 On Ante Post Market.

The winner of the Queen Mother Champion Chase today at Cheltenham, Newmill, was returned at 16-1 by the bookmakers but many ante post punters on betting exchange Betfair.com were rewarded at many times those odds.

They were backing the eight-year-old, trained by John Murphy and ridden by Andrew McNamara months ago at the beginning of the National Hunt season at top odds of 649-1 - with over EUR50 traded at that price.

Betfair spokesman Eoin Ryan commented,

´ Newmill wasn´t really thought of as a lively contender for this race earlier in the season and some of our punters were prepared to offer massive odds about him winning today as a result. Obviously, it´s a dream come true for those that got those massive odds with some punters scooping five-figure payouts for very modest bets´.
