Inothewayurthinkin set to be added to Gold Cup possibles
Randox Grand National favourite Inothewayurthinkin is likely to be supplemented for next week’s Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup, although his participation will be dependent on suitable ground conditions.
Winner of the Kim Muir at last year’s Cheltenham Festival before following up in Grade One company at Aintree, Gavin Cromwell’s charge has yet to add to his tally this season but ran his best race of the campaign so far when fourth behind Galopin Des Champs in last month’s Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown.
“I’d say he’ll be supplemented for the Gold Cup as long as there’s soft in the ground,” said McManus’ racing manager Frank Berry.
Corbetts Cross 'bouncing' ahead of Cheltenham
Emmet Mullins has reported that Corbetts Cross has come out of the Betfair Ascot Chase in good shape with a final decision still to be made on his Gold Cup participation at Cheltenham next week.
Mullins said: “He’s surprisingly very good. I was worried coming home from Ascot as it was an end-to-end gallop and a fair test, but he’s bouncing and couldn’t be happier with the individual at the moment.”
Corbetts Cross won the National Hunt Chase by 17 lengths on testing ground at last year's festival.
Neville retains faith in Real Whacker for Gold Cup
Patrick Neville believes The Real Whacker is being underestimated ahead of his second tilt at the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup.
The nine-year-old is a previous Festival winner having edged out Gerri Colombe in a pulsating Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase two seasons ago, although it is fair to say subsequent results have been mixed.
He was pulled up as a 40-1 shot for the Gold Cup last season, but has fared better in his two most recent starts this term, with victory in the Charlie Hall Chase followed by fourth in the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day.
The Real Whacker is readily available at 50-1 for this year’s renewal of the blue riband at Prestbury Park, but with the presence of dual Gold Cup hero Galopin Des Champs likely to ensure it will be a small field come the day, Neville is confident his stable star can outrun his odds.
“He’s in great form and it’s just a case of keeping him where he is and getting him there now,” the Wensleydale-based trainer said on Thursday.
