Types of Tote Bets
Let's review types of bets on which you can use your free bets from Tote promotions.
Tote Placepot
The Tote Placepot is a pool bet that requires you to select a horse to "place" in each of the first six races of a race meeting. Unlike a standard win bet, your horse does not have to finish first; it only needs to finish within the placing positions (e.g., top two, three, or four), which are determined by the number of runners in each race.
To win a dividend, you must successfully navigate all six races. If your selections fail in the first two races, the Quadpot allows you to bet on the remaining four races as a secondary option.
The payout is determined by the total amount of money in the betting pool, which is shared among all winning tickets. Because of this structure, payouts are higher when popular favorites fail to place, as fewer winners remain to share the fund.
You can choose more than one horse in a single race to increase your chances of progressing, but this increases the total cost of your bet. If you select only one horse in a race, it is commonly referred to as a "banker.
Tote Win/Place
A Tote Win bet requires your horse to finish first in any race with at least two runners. A Tote Place bet requires your horse to finish in one of the designated placing positions, which typically requires a field of at least five runners. You can combine these into an "each-way" bet by placing half your stake on the horse to win and the other half on it to place. The minimum stake for these bets is £0.50.
To place these bets online, select a race time and click the icon next to your chosen horse to add it to your slip. For a win-only bet, enter your stake in the Tote Win field. To place an each-way bet, select the "EW" icon, which applies an equal stake to the Place market. If you prefer to bet only on the horse to place, ensure the each-way option is deselected and enter your stake specifically in the Tote Place field.
Tote Exacta
A Tote Exacta requires selecting the first and second horses to finish a race in the correct order.
There are three main ways to place this bet:
Because a Combination Exacta covers every possible finishing order for the horses chosen, it consists of multiple individual bets, which increases the total stake.
Tote Trifecta
A Tote Trifecta requires selecting the first, second, and third-place finishers in a specific race.
Tote Quadpot
The Tote Quadpot requires you to select a horse to place in four consecutive races, specifically races three, four, five, and six of a meeting. This bet is available from 9:00 AM daily for all UK and selected international meetings and must be placed before the third race begins.
It is frequently used as a secondary option for those whose Placepot bets have lost in the opening two races or for those who prefer to focus on the middle and end of the racecard.
Winning the Quadpot involves meeting the "place" criteria for each of the four legs, which varies based on the number of runners: in races with four or fewer horses, only the winner qualifies; in fields of five to seven, the top two qualify; and in races of eight or more, the top three qualify. For handicap races with 16 or more runners, the first four finishers are included. While you can select multiple horses per race to improve your chances, each additional selection creates more betting lines and increases the total stake.

How to Watch Cheltenham Live with Tote in the UK
Tote horse racing betting is complemented by live streaming for UK customers and you can watch all 28 races at the Cheltenham Festival live with Tote when you are on the go. This is something every top bookmaker should have and it’s terrific that it is included with pool betting.
The best bit about live streaming with the Tote however is that, after you join and deposit once, it’s free! With the vast majority of major fixed-odd bookmakers, this simply isn’t offered. Ordinarily, a small bet would need to be placed on each individual race in order to watch but the Tote have banished that.
Once you’re a member with an account that has been funded, feel free to watch any Irish or British race. The yellow ‘Watch’ symbol is listed next to each meeting, simply click there to view.
Streams are in very high quality and come direct from Racing TV. Because of this, live commentary and some analysis is included. Live streaming is available on the mobile site too.

Tote Horse Racing Review Verdict
The general advice is to remember that there are fundamental differences between exchanges, fixed-odds bookmakers and pool betting operators. You won’t truly know you are getting the best value until you shop around all three. Always check out the Tote horse racing odds before you bet.
Please ensure you play responsibly when choosing to gamble. Always take time to read the operator’s T&Cs and ensure you understand them correctly before committing to an account, or when signing up for an offer or promotion.
