Salut Flo was given a single man's ride by Tom Scudamore as the pair made every yard of the running to land the Byrne Group Plate.
Jumping boldly out in front, the 9/2 favourite shook off a mistake at the fourth last to run his 21 rivals ragged in the 2m5f contest.
The Cockney Mackem (10/1) stayed on strongly to chase the winner home but could never get on terms under Sam Twiston-Davies, going down by six lengths.
Divers (8/1) travelled in eye-catching style for a long way but couldn't quite pick up when asked by Tony McCoy, eventually caught close home for third by fast finishing Glam Gerry (33/1).
Last year's winner Holmwood Legend ran well for a long way but very few got into it, with plenty of hairy jumping on show in the peloton.
Victory was a relief for both Scudamore and trainer David Pipe, who missed out when Grands Crus ran below par on Wednesday.
