Sizing Australia wins Cross Country Chase

Ireland maintained its unbeaten run in the Glenfarclas Handicap Chase at Cheltenham today when Sizing Australia landed the seventh renewal of the cross country race.

Trained by Henry De Bromhead, Sizing Australia (13/2, under Andrew Lynch) made virtually all to win, showing tremendous determination to shake off the challenge of Maljimar on the run-in.

The places were eventually filled by Irish horses, with the gallant Garde Champetre (5-1) under a big weight finishing second, ahead of last year's winner A New Story (12-1).

Jockey Lynch said: "Last year we were unlucky when we were knocked over turning in, but he's very gutsy. He's only a young horse compared to Enda Bolger's horse. He's done it well today and he jumps for fun."

De Bromhead said: "It's brilliant and he deserved it. He's been placed a few times and it's great to get it for Alan and Ann (Potts, owners).

"He got hampered last year but we didn't make enough use of him and that was my fault. I told Andrew to ride him however he wants today and it just shows you should leave it to the jockey!"
