Gavin Cromwell holds a strong hand in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival as he saddles both ante post favourite Stumptown and Vanillier.

Stumptown has landed the last three cross country chases he has contested, including at Cheltenham in December, to earn quotes of 5/2 for this year's Cheltenham edition.

The William Hill ambassador said: "Obviously, Stumptown has been a revelation since he went cross country and we are looking forward to him.

"He has taken a considerable hike. Looking at the Grand National weights, I presume he is going to be off a similar mark.

"It is a big burden but he is very good at it, so hopefully he has a big chance.

"There is certainly no law to it. We tried Stumptown at the cross country because he kept backing out of fences and missing a fence in the handicap chases."

Vanillier is currently third in the betting for Cheltenham after winning a cross country by 18 lengths in Punchestown last month.

Cromwell added: "Vanillier was very good in Punchestown the last day and he has taken to it well.

"He is good at it - Stumptown is better at it - but he is in good shape."
