I thought this was a good opportunity for him today as he was well in with a couple of horse rated below him. He was getting a five pound allowance for being a novice. He will have a little break now until the spring. He has been improving all year and his confidence was on a high after Limerick. There are lots of options for him in the spring. He could possibly be an Irish National horse and there are plenty of other handicaps he could go for.
Martin Brassil
It is amazing what confidence can do. He had been struggling last year with the bad summer and also the year before, he almost got to dislike racing, but he had to win a couple before he started to believe in himself. It is hard to believe that he is still actually a novice but today was his best day. I was surprised how well he travelled in the race and he probably got there plenty soon but he had to commit when he got there. This was the major plan, but maybe something like the Irish National or the other one could feature for him now. I put a stick to him the other day and he was the exact same height as Numbersixvalverde. He is 16 hands and three quarters of an inch.
Martin Brassil
there wasn't much room (bypassing the last) and there was four of us vying for the same position. I was talking to Martin (Brassil) this morning and to Frank Berry (McManus' Racing Manager) and they both told me he'd stay well and not be one bit worried about the trip. It's great to win a race like this and it's my seventh winner this season.
Martin Brassil
That was a pleasant change as he'd gone very frustrating. He was a good horse over hurdles but he has taken time to adapt to fences. Last year he never got that type of ground and that's what I was putting it down too. Stamina is not a problem and he could go for something like the Galway Blazers.
Martin Brassil
They went a slow gallop and sprinted for the last three furlongs but once he jumped the last two he was ok. I was a bit concerned coming down here about the ground but when I got here Barry Geraghty told me it was just soft. He seems to be taking his races well. He won over 2m6f at Galway and will probably be at his best over extended trips. He should make a nice chaser in time.
Martin Brassil
That's great - satisfying. He was in off a nice weight here,. Plenty of fellas were in a hurry to run horses early in the week and this race tends to thin out - luckily for him. Some of the faniced horses came out and I'm glad we took our chance in it. He's a nice honest horse and has done this well.
Martin Brassil
he's a consistent little fella and we'll tip away in those type of handicap hurdles. He handles that ground very well.
Martin Brassil
He is a nice type of four-year-old and learned from his run in Listowel. His jumping was a bit sketchy early on the last day but he was better today. He has had two quick runs so we'll probably freshen him up for a month and then look for something.
Martin Brassil
