I'd like to thank the team at Tipperary for the extraordinary work they did watering the course. The drains are so good here now that some of the water was running straight off the course. They put 30,000 gallons an hour on and they deserve great credit.
E J O'Grady
I feel lucky he kept him in at the last. He very nearly went the wrong course. He's a very nice horse, he's now had four wins and two seconds as a novice which is quite good in Ireland. We might go to Punchestown or we might just let him off.
E J O'Grady
Slieveardagh shouldn't really have been running against Donnas Palm (the Noel Meade trained runner-up) handicap-wise but I thought Donnas Palm had a very hard race at Navan and he is probably better at Navan than he is here. My horse is better on that ground but I don't know where I'll go from here. He has a preference for going left handed, which doesn't help with Punchestown and Fairyhouse and while he is in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham, I doubt he'll go there. Paddy Power Bookmakers subsequently cut Slieveardagh to 12/1 (from 16s) for the Grand Annual Chase and to 14/1 (from 20s) for the Pulteney Handicap Chase also at Cheltenham.
E J O'Grady
Barry (Geraghty) said if the ground was any slower he would have been in trouble but he got away with it. He will go for a two and a half mile chase at Tipperary early next month.
E J O'Grady
excuse the pun, but things fell into place for Slieveardagh today! It was the right result for us although not necessarily in the right order. Slieveardagh cut his leg in his last hurdle run at Killarney and while it was his first run back and his first run over fences, he jumped well. He was a good hurdler and should now make a nice chaser - we'll probably go for a winners' race at Galway next.
E J O'Grady
Andrew (McNamara) had the choice of rides and picked the wrong one . it was nice to win but Slieveardagh hung like a gate at Clonmel the last day and I thought Tramore might not suit him. However he had the best form in the book, having finished second to Fionnegas at Clonmel. Andrew said the ground may have been too heavy for Diophas.
E J O'Grady
that was a pleasant surprise to win first time out! Slieveardagh jumps a fence well but I've no immediate plans.
E J O'Grady
