Battle leads Oxx string home in opener
John Oxx saddled a quartet of runners in the opening maiden at the Curragh this afternoon and filled three of the first four places. Sun 09th Oct
it was straightforward for him and it's not often you get a penalty kick! . He goes on the ground very well and that's a bit surprising as he moves like he wants it hard - his dam wanted it fast too. I've read recently though that Oratorio (Takar's sire) has a good strike rate with his progeny on soft ground. Takar's next run will be at Leopardstown in the Desmond Stakes in mid-August . he might have to face fast ground then though. He has only run once on fast ground, in the Guineas, and he didn't run well when we thought he would love it.

He won well considering he's had a few setbacks. He was laid-up for a short while after his win in October and then for another three weeks in February. He's done well to get here but I couldn't say he lacked for fitness. I was worried about the heavy ground but I'd suppose it wasn't the toughest field.
John M Oxx
He won well. I was afraid the ground was a bit gluey for him. He ran well at the Curragh but probably needed the run and found a mile a bit far. He doesn't move like he would travel on soft ground but he did it well. He will start off in a Listed race next year and he has plenty of ability. He is athletic and is out of a good mare (Takarouna) who won the Pretty Polly. He should be a stakes horse.
