Pat Flynn is hoping to use the Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Saturday as a stepping stone to Cheltenham for South South West.
The County Waterford trainer is targeting the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle next month for the Redback gelding, should he shine in Saturday's Grade Two contest over two miles.
South South West has already shown a good level of form, winning twice over jumps and running respectable races behind Triumph Hurdle favourite Our Conor at Fairyhouse and Blood Cotil at Leopardstown in December.
"He'll be doing his best and if he runs well tomorrow his next run will be the Fred Winter at Cheltenham. We'll just have to see how he gets on," said Flynn.
"He's won his juvenile hurdles and he seems well, so if all goes well he'll be going to the Festival."
A field of five is headed by the Willie Mullins-trained Dogora, winner of both his starts over the smaller obstacles at Limerick and Gowran. He holds entries in the Fred Winter and the Triumph at Cheltenham.
