Former Gold Cup winning jockey Robbie Power has tipped Bob Olinger to outrun big odds when he lines up in the Stayers' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in two weeks' time.
2024 winner Teahupoo is a hot 5/6 favourite to win the race for the second consecutive year, with the Joseph O'Brien-trained Home By The Lee rated the 6/1 second favourite. And while Power, who landed the Gold Cup on Sizing John in 2017, respects the market leader, he believes Henry de Bromhead's two-time Festival winner can run a big race again at the age of 10.
Speaking at a Cheltenham Festival preview night hosted by BoyleSports at Limerick Racecourse, Power said: “I'm not going to tell you that Teahupoo can't win, he ran well behind Lossiemouth in the Hatton's Grace on ground that was too quick for him. A lot of things went against him at Fairyhouse, the ground was good and the race wasn't run to suit, the pace was too slow. I think it was a very satisfactory run and he's taking the same route as last year — straight to Cheltenham after that.
“Home By The Lee is definitely in a better place this season too, he's finishing out his races much better than last year, he's showing a bit more spark.”
“But at a big price if the ground is good, a dual Cheltenham Festival winner at 25/1 worth backing each-way is Bob Olinger. He's done it twice before and on good ground and I can't see him out of the first three.”
