Robbie Power was bullish this morning about Jezki's chances in the Supreme Novices Hurdle, which kicks off the action at the Cheltenham festival this afternoon.
Power partnered the gelding for just the second time, and the first over hurdles, when the pair claimed a Grade One event at Leopardstown over Christmas and revealed that he was very impressed with his mount.
The Jessica Harrington-trained gelding looks set to be sent off second favourite for the opener with the fellow JP McManus-owned My Tent Or Yours currently trading as short as 6/4 in some places.
Power was a guest of the Morning Line this morning and said:-
“He's always a horse that you'd like to take a lead on until the last. I thought I hit the front a little too soon at Leopardstown but when he went to the front he was very professional.
“If I was sitting on AP (McCoy's) tail turning in I would be happy enough.
“On form so far he's definitely the best of the Irish. I was surprised with the turn of foot he showed (at Leopardstown). On the day I was really impressed, when I gave him a squeeze, with the way he picked up. It was a proper gallop that day and there was no hiding place.”
