- Tricky winner of four miler
Tricky winner of four miler
Tricky Trickster ran away from his rivals on the uphill climb to the line for an impressive success in the four mile National Hunt Chase.
Sam Waley-Cohen's mount, available at 20/1 in the morning and supported down to 11/1 at the off, was strongly challenged by 4/1 favourite Can't Be Done and the Tony Martin-trained Drumconvis approaching the last.
However on the run-in Nigel Twiston-Davies' charge proved much the strongest beating Drumconvis, who recovered from a bad mistake four out, by ten lengths. Nine De Sivola stayed on best of the remainder to finish just a neck further back in third.
Parsons Pistol was a big mover in the market (14's to 7's) but, after a number of mistakes, finally crashed out at the third last.
'He's a bit idle, but he's done it really well. I kept asking him to pick up and he did every time and that's why he's won it. I thought I might have got there a bit quick, but he stayed on really well,'said Waley-Cohen.
Twiston-Davies added, 'This race has always been the plan. Anthony Bromley (bloodstock agent) tells me he's for sale so, please, somebody buy him and send him back to me!'
Tony Martin, trainer of runner-up Drumconvis said,'He made a mistake at the stage of the race when he was just getting into a position, which was a bad time for it to happen. It's a hard old race over four miles so I'm not sure he'll be out again (this season), but he should make a lovely staying chaser.'
