Exceeding Exceeding is what he is although I want to get him up in the handicap, as he’s very lowly rated and is probably better than his mark. I have a few girl apprentices who haven’t ridden yet so I want to get him rated higher, and not suspended from running, so they can have a few spins on him. He’s also actually worth having as a lead horse, as he’s very good to lead the two-year-olds. He’s actually better than what he lets on he is!. The seven furlongs today definitely helped, he looked like he needed every bit of it there. I’d say an ease in the ground is a help to him too. |

Royal Hollow She is over-brave and at home we have to keep a lid on her. We did a good bit of schooling with her but we couldn't do too much either as she is too brave - she is not a married man's ride. |

Staysound Susie Our horses are fit and well and often you’d look at the programme book, but there wouldn’t be the right races for your horses. It has all fallen right as there are races for my horses who go on the ground, and that’s basically it. They have been running well, are all in good form but the races are there for them. Staysound Susie loved that trip and had finished third over five (furlongs) here recently, which is too short. She was in the Listed race in Cork tomorrow but I said to the lads that she might only finish fifth or sixth in that but that she had a chance of winning a 30 grand pot here. We’ll try and nick a bit of black type with her as she’s going in foal this year because she’s starting to resent the stalls and things like that. She loves that ground, six furlongs and by putting her in foal, it might improve her a bit over the coming weeks. My other filly (fourth-placed Bint Majestic Roi) ran a cracker. She was the sleeper that I had in the pack, who was starting to work very well over sprint trips. She’s not bred for it, she’s bred to be a mile-and-a-half or mile-and-a-quarter filly, but she’s just been working well. Andrew (jockey son) got off her and said he thought she’d make a good sprinter. |

Sir Allen I thought he would need the run today and then somewhere in three weeks. He's a good horse, he should have won a Boodles. That was the worst day of my racing life the day he ran in Cheltenham in the Boodles. He got a leg injury, and he was off for a year and a-half. I didn't see that coming. Loves that ground and he's a good horse. He'll go over fences too during the summer. |

Red Charlie He was working very well. Emmet (Mullins) had him as a two-year-old and he got injured. I have all the horses for Padraig (O’Rourke) and he decided to send him on to me,it was either that or get rid of him. . He worked very well and I fancied him, I thought he’d go close. . We don’t know what he is yet, but he’s a nice horse. He’s probably not badly handicapped, he won with a bit in hand. . He probably likes that ground because he did work on it the other day. . The owner had lost faith after having him as a two-year-old and sent him on as a last resort. We have him about four months. |

Opalite I thought she’d run well, but I thought the ones with a few runs might do her for a bit of experience,. It’s great for Seamus, he bought her off us a month ago, we hoped she was a nice filly. He bought a few point-to-pointers off us before, they won a few races but didn’t work out, so it’s grand to sell him one now. I think it’s his first Flat horse. He met me at Navan in January and said he’d love to get a Flat filly, and I said ‘I have one for you’ and this is it. We like her and hopefully now she keeps going. We might look at a stakes race, something like the Polonia, although we could maybe take our time with her if we got a winners’ race somewhere. I’d say she probably is a stakes filly. She’s still a bit immature. We liked her last year at the back end, but we left her off and didn’t run her as she was a bit backward, and he said she’s still a little weak. We’ll let her tell us where we go. |
