Formscan By Gary Carson - RICH BELIEF (2) has slipped to a nice mark on the Flat and may be able to score here. The Make Believe gelding has run solid races in claiming hurdles on his last couple of outings and this looks like a winnable opportunity now. Gallo Dell Cielo was an impressive winner at Tramore last month but got a 10lb hike as a result and while that makes life tougher he should be capable of another big show here. Miss Gitana ran poorly at Navan last time but would be a big player on previous placed form.

He’s only had four runs over hurdles since he won a good pot in Kelso. Every year he’d win on the Flat. He was never going down but he’d just improve a little bit to win. You could set your clock by him as he’d always win once a year. He’s getting a bit older and I’d said I’d chance it. I don’t like running in claimers but he’s at that age and going back to a handicap he’s going to be in no man’s land. He enjoyed that and when he’s enjoying things he can do it very easy. These races give those older horses a chance of going and doing something again. The fact that he had a couple of runs on the Flat, going back over hurdles then he’s just that bit sharper. He travelled a bit easier in the race. I’m delighted with him.

We weren't sure whether to go for the two and a half mile race today, or step him up to this trip, but he always gave me the impression that there's no end to him, and he stayed at it well. I'm thrilled with him. I might give him another run and finish up until the spring then. . He has a lower mark over fences but we might stick to hurdles for the time being, we can always come back for that lower chase mark. I have a few more young horses in that I like, but they're going to take a bit of time. This lad is the stable star at the moment!

we forgot his colours when rushing this morning, but he won anyway and that's the main thing. I had a race in Dundalk in mind for him but said I'd run today even though he was 7lb out-of-the-handicap. He'll get the 7lb (penalty) now, and whatever else, but is a tough little horse and I couldn't believe he got up. The Dundalk race is a two-mile 0-60 handicap: the course mightn't suit but we'll run him if he gets in.
