Formscan By John O'Riordan - Winner of a Listed hurdle at this track last October, SHADOW PADDY can deliver on his chasing debut. Trainer Eoin McCarthy did exceptionally well with the son of Shadow Gale, picking up four races over flights last year. Highly tried on his reappearance, when pulled up in Grade 1 company at Aintree last month, this looks more realistic. While his ability to jump fences has to be taken on trust, the six-year-old looks the pick on his hurdles form. Twice successful over flights, Le Coq Hardi has yet to win over fences but has run to a decent level and, already boasts an official rating of 136. Ocastle Des Mottes has also shown enough over fences to be of interest.

we rode the horse positively the last day but he was just too keen. He travelled well into the straight then but didn’t get home, so I said to Alex to take his time. He gave him a super ride, was very polished and that’s his first winner for me. He is owned by two publicans from Gorey (John O’Connor and Michael Gleeson) who own two different pubs in the town, so normally they’re in competition. I have great support locally and it is lovely to be getting winners for local people.

That is our first Listed horse and is my biggest win. It mightn't have been the strongest race but it still took winning, it is a lovely pot and the (Complete Package) syndicate are enjoying it. He is a big raw horse and is improving all the time so the dream is still alive. He is learning about the game and once he stays in one piece, he has a bright future. He won't go on winter ground so we'll put him away now until next spring. The syndicate are mad to travel (to Britain) but it was me all along who was holding back. We can now start about thinking about the likes of the Aintree festival and he has such a laid-back way of racing that you could aim him at a lot of different places. I was also delighted with Carrigg Island although Darragh (O'Keeffe) said he was leaning into the cut-up ground. He will make a lovely novice chaser next summer.
