He's a fine big horse, he has plenty of scope and the ground is beautiful out there. He disappointed us in Gowran the last day, but the ground was typical heavy Gowran ground. He won his maiden hurdle in Naas and then ran a nice race in Gowran. He was favourite there the last day, but just got stuck in it. I wasn't sure what way he'd go today, he had schooled great. It was just really to get his confidence back and give him something different to do. He was a bit guessy at a few. He has so much scope that he was kind of getting too brave. Two out he stood outside the wings and then he landed on his head. I'd say it knocked the stuffing out of him, he went from travelling really well to having to chase after him. He seems to handle that ground lovely, and country tracks, so we'll keep him on the go. He'll be a novice until November now. He won half a length there, so I suppose he (handicapper) can't be too hard on him. It was an ordinary race, although Clondaw Hollow had some good back form. It's nice to get the job done anyway.

He jumped brilliant on the whole, bar a couple of small mistakes in the back straight, and it all unfolded nicely for him. He was bought out of a claimer for handy money and won an €80,000 hurdle at Galway last summer, so has been a great horse for the lads. Yeah, I suppose when she was 109 I felt there was a maiden hurdle in her. If we could go back, we would probably ride her very differently in a bumper. She always seemed like a filly that basically stays and it was only when we changed tactics with her in her maiden hurdles, when she was held up a bit, that she started finishing out her races better. There probably was a bumper in her if I'd known that. Simon said she didn't travel as well as she can. The ground is as quick as you would want for her. She might be starting in season as well. He said he was happy enough she would pick up from the second last. You'd imagine so (go down handicap route) and see what the handicapper does. As long as the ground stays relatively good, she won't be in it for the winter.

I haven't got him all that long. We ran him for the first time since Dessie (McDonogh) retired in Clonmel, and he ran well. I was a little worried about the ground tonight, I thought it might be a little quick, but all the lads said it was good and safe with a nice bit of juice in it. He handled it well. He got a great run around and jumped super. He's sweeter than he was a while ago. He's really travelling there nicely and doing everything well. Nice one to look forward to.

Danny is very lucky for us. Danny is a past master at those front-racing tactics. This horse is owned by a great, long-standing friend of mine called Hugh Laing. That was his first win over hurdles but he had always been there or thereabouts and he is tough. The ground is very heavy so I was worried but we live in Cratloe and our farm is only five miles out the road (in Sixmilebrridge) so it was tempting when the track being so near. We sponsored the previous race and tried to win it but didn't have any luck. This horse is a winter horse and is a chaser really who you'd think he might win a good chase some day.

His trip is three and a-half (miles) plus. He had a lovely run in the Porterstown and it worked out very well. Just had no luck with him after that. He ran well the last day, but he was due that win. When you go back through his form, it was pretty good. Without a doubt (going out in trip) - you won't get too many races over three miles, two (furlongs). There is one coming back here. and Danny said he might get into the Kerry National. He was third as a novice in Punchestown over nearly four miles. It is great to get it.

I met Julie (Thomas, owner) in Doncaster a few years ago and she breeds some top class horses in Newmarket. Her pedigrees are very good and she told me that this horse wasn't a commercial sales horse because he wasn't hugely big, so she offered me to get involved. We went from there and it is fantastic to get a winner with my first horse for Julie. To have an overseas owner having a winner in Ireland is fantastic. We'll keep him handicap hurdling now and we could look at a four-year-old handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe later this year. I thought he wanted a trip but Darragh (O'Keeffe) suggested we drop him back in trip, having ridden him the last day. It's Joanna's first winner for me and she is very loyal and able when Phildelma (Elvin, stable amateur) isn't available.
