Johnny's Jury
It’s fabulous, just wonderful. We never planned to be at the back, but it was a bit of a mess at the start once again. He’s travelled through the race and jumped great and there’s no better man than Gavin. We’ve gone through a lot of things over the last few years and it’s wonderful to have another Grade One winner and certainly at Cheltenham it’s amazing. He’s a very nice horse, he came from Nicky (Henderson) who highly recommended him and he’s done nothing but improve over the course of the last year. It was a massive step up from two miles one (furlong) to three miles, but he’s a half-brother to Appreciate It so we thought his stamina was not in question and thankfully it worked out. We’ve had some wonderful times, winning the Hennessy (Coral Gold Cup) with Datsalrightgino and Grade One winners at Aintree and other big races, but it’s tough. At this place it’s tough to win and it’s tough to run well. We came here with five bullets to fire and five really nice horses and haven’t got a look in, which makes results like this so special.

Il Etait Temps
It took him 24 hours to recover when he came home. He was a bit shaken and then he had to get on the ferry and come home and that’s not how you’d like to do it, but it was a case of what we did and once he got home he settled into his routine and recovered quite quickly. We just had to get the spark back into him. We took the hood off and tweaked a few things at home and galloped him a bit differently, a bit like Lossiemouth (Tuesday’s Champion Hurdle winner), and it’s worked. I thought Paul was very brave on him today as obviously he couldn’t go the pace they were setting for the first mile, but I could see coming down the hill Paul was happy and he had his position coming to the final bend. I think the better ground maybe helped him. I was wondering whether he was a horse who didn’t like this place, but when went through his form at Cheltenham we found excuses for every day. We took the hood off him as we had to do something different. From when he was a young horse he was very keen and always wore the hood, but when he disappointed we said he had to change something. Paul was very good on him today. I had a bit of a heart attack at the last, but it looked he had plenty of horse underneath him.

Umpire's Call
That was great. He stepped down to a handicap. He got injured last year. Brian Pierce has been a great supporter of ours down through the years. I’m delighted with him. He’s a huge horse and I’d say it’s only now he’s coming fitness wise. He jumped brilliant. He had been jumping too high but the two lads, Donagh (Meyler) and Keith have been schooling him over the round hurdles at home. They let him rip last Sunday week and he jumped very well. He’s a chaser in the making, hopefully. I’ll say we’ll get another run into him over hurdles, it will depend on the ground. He’s so big he’d definitely want a cut. I’d say he’ll wants three miles eventually too.

Argento Boy
He was very good, he doesn’t quite show that at home. I think he’s probably relentless and has a really high cruising speed. Jasmin De Vaux won this bumper before he won in Cheltenham (in 2024), but he’d be a very different type of horse to him. He’s a relentless galloper, a big strong horse. I’d imagine he’s a Cheltenham horse. He could be along the lines of Florida Pearl, those Cheltenham bumper horses.

It was testing ground the day he won his bumper at Naas but it is very testing ground today and while he got a grand lead, it was very hard to tell how fast to go. They went very steady and quickened it from the turn-in, but they still finished tired. I wouldn't say you could quicken for too long on that ground. He did everything right and off his rating (124), he was supposed to win that. It's not as if I haven't thought about going for the Series Final at the Punchestown festival, but I will consider going straight chasing with him now. He is getting on and chasing will be his job.

It was a fantastic ride by Brian. He’s a very tricky horse to ride but Brian knows him well,. He had good class bumper form and hurdle form, he’s just a decent horse. I’d imagine his route probably maps itself, all those good handicap chases. Now that he’s settling he could probably go up in trip. We could look at the Grand Annual with him. I’m not sure at this stage.

Nice to see Danny picking up the pieces again on Argento Boy who was running a cracker here the last day when he slipped up. I was very happy that he was able to do that over that trip. He jumped a lot better. He was green enough at times, especially coming to the last. We put cheekpieces on him over hurdles and might do the same over fences.

Skylight Hustle
He travelled like a dream the whole way and jumped like a buck,. I thought looking at it live that we were beat, but when I looked at the re-run, I wasn’t sure (with) the way my lad galloped from the last to the line. Jack said when he came in ‘I can’t guarantee I would have won but I definitely wasn’t beat’. He said he really liked the way he went from the last to the line. It happened to us yesterday (when El Cairos fell when in front at the last) but that’s why it’s called jump racing. He’s a good horse and I think he’ll stay further as well. I’d imagine he’ll come back here for the Dublin Racing Festival.

I’d say he’s a very smart horse. To be fair, I probably made a mistake running him too quick last year and he was too free here in his bumper. He had a great run the last day, he was only half fit and he blew up. I was delighted with him as we knew there was loads of improvement in him. We would have been disappointed if he got beat here today. I’d say he’s a real two miler. He’ll be going for the two-mile novice race at Christmas. We have to give him a go, I’d say he’s a very smart horse. Jack said that was impressive and that he picked up the whole way down the straight.
