Bioluminescence is on course for a crack at the Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival following a fine effort in defeat at Naas yesterday afternoon.
The daughter of Walk In The Park, trained by Gavin Cromwell for JP McManus, made a big impact on her first start over fences when easily landing the Grade 2 McMahons Builders Providers Irish EBF Dawn Run Mares Novice Chase at the Limerick Christmas meeting.
The giant seven-year-old had to carry a penalty in the Grade 3 Finlay Ford At Naas Novice Chase, but lost little in defeat when trying to give weight to the odds-on Dancing City.
She kept on gamely over the extended three miles to finish a three and a half lengths runner-up to the hot favourite and trainer Gavin Cromwell was very pleased with the performance.
“I thought she ran very well with the 8lb penalty. It was a good solid run, and she was beaten by a very good horse” said the Danestown trainer.
“She loves that ground. She won her point-to-point in Boulta on soft gound and she finds it very easy.
“She jumps real well and is a very big mare— she’s 17 hands or more.
“She’ll definitely have an entry for the Mares Chase, and we’ll take it from there.”
The sponsors make her a 6/1 chance for the extended 2m4f event on March 14.
