Tuesday's Lucky 15 Tips

Our horse racing experts have searched through the latest races and odds to find the best Lucky 15 picks for March 10. Below, you can find who we recommend, their odds and why we’re tipping them for success.

Mustang Du Breuil 2.40 Cheltenham

JP McManus has three good chances in the Fred Winter and Mustang Du Breuil is the most appealing of them at the prices rather than Saratoga and Manlaga

This horse held a Triumph Hurdle entry earlier in the season and ran a good race in the Dovecote on his second start for Nicky Henderson last month.

That was an interesting piece of placement to run Mustang Du Breuil against older novices barely two weeks after his successful hurdling debut for the stable.

The time of the Dovecote was strong relative to the Adonis on that card at Kempton and Mustang Du Breuil caught the eye with a strong finishing effort for third, taking a bit of pulling up.

That experience will stand to him and the son of Goliath Du Berlais can put it to good use.

Poniros 4.00 Cheltenham

It is easy to find faults in every runner in the Champion Hurdle and this could be ripe for an upset. Lossiemouth may be the Willie Mullins number one hope, but I’ll be backing the less-fancied Poniros against him.

Poniros has 11 lengths to find with Lossiemouth from their meeting at the Dublin Racing Festival in the Irish Champion Hurdle, but he was making his reappearance and was never really put into the race.

It was a decent run in the circumstances against two hard-fit mares, and it is difficult to envisage winner Brighterdaysahead matching that level as her Cheltenham form is inferior to what she has shown at Leopardstown.

Poniros will appreciate getting on a quicker surface and we shouldn’t forget the impression he created when edging out Lulamba in the Triumph Hurdle a year ago. We know he acts around Cheltenham and a career best is in the pipeline.

Guard Your Dreams 4.40 Cheltenham

It is advantageous to have a prominent racer on your side in the chases at Cheltenham and Guard Your Dreams, who bolted up from the front at Warwick a month ago, appeals most in the Plate.

That was only a veterans’ race, but it was a competitive one and Guard Your Dreams couldn’t have won it any easier, being heavily eased down by his rider before the winning line.

An 8lb rise for that is fair and it would be little surprise if he improved from it, given it was his first run of the campaign.

Guard Your Dreams is yet to match the level of his peak hurdles efforts, but his recent success was his best over fences on Racing Post Ratings by 5lb and he brings good course form to the table, having won an International Hurdle and finished third in a Relkeel a few season ago.

He can get them all at it on the front end to roll back the years under Sam-Twiston-Davies.

SP

Iceberg Theory 5.20 Cheltenham

Paul Nolan’s runners at the Cheltenham Festival are always worth a look and Iceberg Theory completes the list of four in the National Hunt Chase.

Iceberg Theory gives the impression he’s been laid out for a tilt at a long-distance chase. He’s two from three over fences and presumably hasn’t been since November in order to protect his mark for a decent pot.

The ground has come right for him and his formlines are working out strongly. He beat Boston Rover at Limerick in May and that horse won his next three, while his defeat of O’Toole when last seen reads well after that one’s recent strike in a competitive Listed handicap chase at Leopardstown.

Conor Stone-Walsh is good value for his 3lb claim and Iceberg Theory has untapped potential as a staying chaser, having earned his mark with strong-staying victories over shorter trips.
