He made an awful mistake, and lost his backend. The second horse was creeping along behind him, he had good point-to-point form, and I thought our goose was cooked but to be fair to the horse he dug in and he ran on gamely,. He had a rating of 115, and solid winter form. I would have been very disappointed if he didn’t collect there today. I’d imagine we’ll probably look at a Galway handicap or a novice race.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Western Princess, ridden by B. Hayes, and trained by W.P. Mullins. Evidence was heard from the rider and the Authorised Representative for the trainer concerned
B. Hayes stated that his mount is a very difficult mare who wears a hood and tongue strap and she bolted first time out, bolted at half way and barely finished her race second time out and then ran nicely when she settled somewhat last time out. He added that his instructions were to jump off mid division but it was essential that she was on the rail and settled. Furthermore he added that he ended up further back then planned but had been shuffled back at the start. Peter Delmar, Authorised Representative for W.P. Mullins confirmed the instructions given and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. The Raceday Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that Western Princess was post race normal. Samples were taken for further analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the explanations given and took no further action.
