Janes Harbour makes breakthrough in Ballinrobe
A Snow White Park pops up at 66/1 on racecourse debut
Mags (Mullins, trainer) was trying to box clever. We thought she’d win the maiden hurdle and she’s eligible for the Red Mills, which is a lot more prize-money, so we thought we’d sneak around here. She didn’t realise when I’m riding I don’t hold back if it’s there!. We liked her going for a point-to-point and John Gleeson thought he was running a nice race the day she fell at the second last. It surprised me how good she was there. To beat Last Kingdom like that, on ratings it puts it as a fair performance. She was great, one run in a point-to-point and her first run over hurdles here at speed on good ground. There is a lot to like about her and convincing Mags to hold on to her now is the next thing. A good jump at the last put me a few lengths clear and I got over to the rail. On such an inexperienced filly it was vital to have that. You can’t pick up the stick and go hard at those ones, it’s rhythm and gallop forward is what they need and she did it well. We could try and qualify her for the Red Mills final next year. It won’t be a maiden, it’ll be a novice that will need to get her into that. It was a good performance. We always liked her, a smart four-year-old, and she’s shown us that and more tonight.
Boy battles back after blunder
He made an awful mistake, and lost his backend. The second horse was creeping along behind him, he had good point-to-point form, and I thought our goose was cooked but to be fair to the horse he dug in and he ran on gamely,. He had a rating of 115, and solid winter form. I would have been very disappointed if he didn’t collect there today. I’d imagine we’ll probably look at a Galway handicap or a novice race.
Ballinrobe-winner Fairbanks has plenty of summer options
Miss Gherkin delights Griffin in Ballinrobe
She did it well, she improved a little bit from the last day. I’m delighted to get a win for Maurice (Sheehy, owner). He was with me when I was more or less starting off and had some very well-bred mares with me years ago. She just came to me a couple of months back and I’m delighted to get a win for him. She loves that good ground and it was pretty straightforward. She’s won a couple of races before, so we knew she had ability and she loves that proper good ground. I’m sure the handicapper is going to have his say, but she has a couple of entries at the weekend so we’ll see what happens. She has a chase mark as well, but we’ll stay hurdling for the time being and go from there then.
Mimi makes late charge
Tannery Park makes it a brace for Connell and Flanagan
It was his first run for a long time in Cork. I thought turning in he was going to win, but then he blew up and then stayed on,. He definitely gets that trip, but I wouldn’t be worried about two-and-a-half. I’d say he just took the run in Cork. He’s a fun horse, he was rated 91 there and hopefully he’ll stay in the 100 grade. He has a nice rating on the Flat, I think he is 45. He should be a good fun summer horse and we’ll mix it between hurdles and the Flat. He’s a tiny little horse and will go around on any of those tight tracks.
Doctor Steinberg has right prescription for Ballinrobe
I think he’s a good-class horse. We were disappointed to get beaten the last day, but I think we ran into a nice type. He could be one for a maiden hurdle in Galway. I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes up into a winter horse next year. He has a nice pedigree and is by a good stallion. He’ll win plenty of races.
