Boy battles back after blunder Net Boy survived a blunder at the last flight to land the odds in the first division of the Sheridan Electric Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe. Barry Connell’s charge went to post a 4/6 shot in the two miler and bounced out to make the running under Sean Flanagan. The hotpot was sticky at a few before a more serious error at the final flight. It gave Kamikaz Du Plessis a chance to have a crack but Net Boy found plenty late on to record a half-length win. “He made an awful mistake, and lost his backend. The second horse was creeping along behind him, he had good point-to-point form, and I thought our goose was cooked but to be fair to the horse he dug in and he ran on gamely," said Connell. “He had a rating of 115, and solid winter form. I would have been very disappointed if he didn’t collect there today. “I’d imagine we’ll probably look at a Galway handicap or a novice race.” When it was put to him that Flanagan didn’t panic after the mistake he added:- “There is no upside in panicking. It’s like getting punched in a boxing match, you have to let the horse get his breath back before you go for him. “He might have schooled over those easyfix hurdles at home but he’s been jumping the winter hurdles and they are an easier jump than those. They take a bit of jumping if you are out in front and not paying attention. “He’s a fine big horse and his form has been improving all the time. I’d say we won’t delay him too long over hurdles. “We’ll probably keep him a novice over fences until next year. Hopefully there will be some nice prizes for him. Hopefully now that he’s got his head in front it will give him a bit of confidence too.”
