Formscan By Mark Nunan - COPPER CRAFT (10) was all but home on his last start at Navan before a subsequent winner nabbed him late on over 1m2f, and if backing up that run, the Andy Oliver-trained gelding should take a bit of beating. The son of Raven’s Pass also went close over 1m4f at Dundalk in May. Masego was touched off over this trip at Down Royal on Friday, and looks the biggest danger to the selection. Denis Hogan's Tassarolo ran well at Killarney last week and, with top apprentice Paddy Harnett on board, is sure to be competitive. Desert Friend isn’t the most predictable, but the veteran has a course and distance win to his name and has struck twice this year.%0A

Gavin gave Tassarolo a very good ride and while he has only ridden a few horses for us, he had won a maiden hurdle on this horse and is a talented young rider. Gavin rode Tassarolo the last day and knew him, so we kept riding arrangements the same. It was a great result for me and while it was hard luck on the owners (Final Reminder Syndicate) of the runner-up, both horses ran well. The two horses are very similar and there were a lot of people asking me ‘which one?’ today, but they are similarly rated and really I couldn’t split them. Both were going up in trip but it was just which one would see it out better, and the winner did. Tassarolo is owned by our local publican (in the Full Of Hope Syndicate) and unfortunately one of the members John O’Shea passed away the day the horse won his maiden hurdle. He has a rating of 62 on the Flat so can go back to there too so there are options with him.

for whatever reason Desert Friend has become keen in his races. He's not bad at home and we are just trying to keep him settled. We changed his bit for his last run but he was keen again tonight. In fairness to Chris (Hayes), he held on to him although he is now giving more of a blow than the horse. I was wondering why he didn't ‘go’ at the two-furlong pole but he said afterwards that he needed a break!. Chris’ experience counted though, as he knew he would reap rewards at the end of the race. He said he pulled for 1m6f of the (two miles) race, so it was a great ride. Small fields and maybe a turning track (on turf), would suit so hopefully he will win another one.

It is good to be back! She loves it around here. She has been breaking badly lately over a mile and a-quarter - very quick at home, but breaking badly. A mile and a-half, she has more time to get to the bend. He (Hassett) told me at the start this was the plan, he was going to get her out smart and maybe give her one behind the saddle if we have to. I have to say with Wayne, it is like you are talking to Seamie (Heffernan) or Niall McCullagh. He's very good and a great understanding of a horse.
