FormscanBy Eamonn Murphy - Tactical Move and The Big Getaway have ensured a happy November for Joe and Marie Donnelly, Willie Mullins and Patrick Mullins, with bumper successes in recent days. ASTERION FORLONGE began, like Tactical Move and The Big Getaway, in point-to-points. The other pair went for Donnchadh Doyle, and it was his Tipperary namesake Pat that won with Asterion Forlonge, at Oldtown in February 2018. After winning on Asterion Forlonge Derek O’Connor said: “It’s a superb track (Oldtown) on all counts, for horses, riders and spectators. For one reason or another I’ve ridden only a couple of times at the course, but I was very glad I was there on Sunday. I had a lovely ride on Asterion Forlonge who won the four-year-old maiden for Pat Doyle in great style. There was only five runners but they came from the right yards. The runner-up is a Gigginstown horse trained by Eddie Hales, the third is trained by Denis Murphy, and the other two were supplied by Colin McKeever and Colin Bowe. They were all expensive horses. The winner cost 60,000 Euro at the Derby Sale, and the promising second was a 100,000 Euro Land Rover purchase.” For her part Mary Doyle, wife of the then handler, said of Asterion Forlonge: “He’s a lovely horse and he did it very well there. He had been doing everything very easily at home, so we were very hopeful coming here that he would put in a big performance.” We haven’t seen him since but the Coastal Path gelding will likely be a short price to get off to an excellent beginning after his 290,000 pound purchase.
