In Compliance Out To 79-1 On Betfair For The Gold Cup

A downbeat bulletin from trainer Michael O'Brien today means that In Compliance is highly likely to miss the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup - and that has been reflected in the Betfair market, where he has been matched at prices up to 79-1 this evening.

But no 999-1 is being offered just yet on the exchange!

In Compliance was backed at a low of 17-2 for the Gold Cup after beating War of Attrition by 2 ? lengths in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase back in December. But, although O'Brien virtually ruled the horse out of the race today, the Betfair layers are fighting shy of offering fancy prices about a change of heart, and In Compliance winning the big one on March 16th.

And little wonder why.

It is nearly two years ago to the day since Kicking King was ruled out of the Gold Cup by connections and drifted to the maximum price of 999-1 on Betfair, only for the horse to make a miraculous recovery and beat Take The Stand by 5 lengths at Cheltenham.

Betfair's Eoin Ryan said: 'Even though In Compliance has basically been ruled out, it's not surprising that the biggest price matched on him winning the race is just 79-1 today.

Memories of Kicking King are obviously still fresh in our customers' minds.
