Thirteen for Moriarty

Nicanor, who has been off the track for almost three years, is among 13 horses to stand their ground at the confirmation stage for Sunday's Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown.

The eight-year-old is the only horse to beat Denman but he has not raced since landing the Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown in April 2006.

His trainer Noel Meade has also left in Parsons Pistol, who won a Grade Two novice chase at Naas last month.

Cooldine, prominent in the ante-post betting for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham, and Financial Reward are possibles from the Willie Mullins stable.

Other Festival hopefuls likely to bid for this Grade One prize include Trafford Lad, Forpadydeplasterer and Rare Bob.

They finished first, second and third respectively in the Drinmore Chase at Fairyhouse in November. Tranquil Sea, who was only fifth that day, is also a Moriarty acceptor.

The list is completed by Chiraaz, Majestic Concorde, Raven's Run, Top Of the Rock and Travino.

Dessie Hughes is hoping for a good run from Rare Bob, who opened his account over fences in a beginners' chase at Punchestown last month.

"He did it easily last time, things went right for him for a change," said the Kildare trainer.

"He's a nice horse, but it will be a smart race. He'll run well and I think he goes on any ground. I hope the snow stays away."
