Prince Saunters Home
Noble Prince, Group placed on the level in France for Andre Fabre and bought by Paul Nolan for Des Sharkey for E150,000, put a couple of uninspiring efforts over flights behind him when bolting up in the Inistioge Maiden Hurdle. Wed 01st Apr
I blame myself for running him last year as he had a major problem and I was banging my head against a wall by running him. He should have had the season off as he had cracks down both hooves and we ran him with steel stitches in it. Normally it is a problem show-jumpers have and he just wasn't jumping which was causing him to be cowardly. He finished out no race last season and I'm delighted he won today as he is now back on track. I thought there were two horses that were better than me and coming here I thought he was down to a mark that he might have a chance in a big handicap in England. The handicapper won't put us up too much for that, hopefully.
Paul Nolan
It's nice to have his first run over with. When the ground is soft you're a bit worried. Anyhow, there is no point harping on about the ground . when they get to a certain age they have to take on the winter horses. Davy said that was hard to assess there against lesser opposition. On soft ground we wouldn't step him up in trip. He is in the Paddy Power at Cheltenham off eleven stone two and we'll have a look at that and see what happens. We'll also look at all those two mile races for him.
Paul Nolan
“Noble Prince is in good form and is also an intended runner all going well. It looks like Mikael D'Haguenet will run but it's a Grade One and you're going to meet the best.
“He looked good the last day and I suppose if he had won he probably wouldn't have went for this but with the fall I'd say he'll turn up.”
Paul Nolan
He rubbed off the first and that crowned him as he put in a nice round of jumping after. He settled well today which has been an issue with him before. We made a mess of him last season, running him back in the Lismullen Hurdle just a week after winning at Naas and we won't be doing that again as he needs time between his races. He probably doesn't see out three miles and we'd see him as more of a middle distance horse (between two and two and a half miles). Hopefully he'll have learned plenty from that and we'll talk to Mr Sharkey (the owner) now with regard to plans. He could come back here for the Craddockstown Chase (on November 14th) and the Drinmore would be another possible race for him.
Paul Nolan
I'm delighted with him and he proved today he handles any type of ground. I started him off too quickly over hurdles last season after gelding him but he is a much stronger horse now.
Paul Nolan
He was very good, when we first got him we were blaming the heavy ground for his runs but we probably should have given a bit longer off when he came from France. He's a nice progressive sort and I think he's a better horse on better ground and the better pace would suit him more. We just have to make up our minds now as to what to do so I will speak to the owner and decide. He's a very nice horse.
Paul Nolan
He didn't handle the heavy ground the last twice and we probably ran him a bit too quickly after being gelded. He is stronger and healthier now and that is his ground so he'll probably be kept going. (EM)
Paul Nolan
