Johnbrowne looks Great at Punchestown

Thegreatjohnbrowne could just be well-named as he justified the belief that Noel Meade has always had in him by routing the opposition under Paul Carberry (completing a double after the win on Noble Prince half-an-hour earlier) in the Christmas Parties at Punchestown Beginners Chase.

Owned by Wexford handler Martina Doran's father, Murt, the strapping big chestnut, a son of Beneficial, soon led under Carberry on his fencing debut and he struck on from before the straight to slam the staying on Bostons Angel by five and a half lengths.

The six-year-old had a growth removed from his throat since last season and Meade's brother Ben said: "He looks a right one. He disappointed last year after starting great but things went wrong. Hopefully he's back to himself now. He won there like a good horse and chasing was always going to be his game."

This was Carberry's fifth winner over the two days at Punchestown whilst Meade has supplied him with three of those.
