Amnesty on Moriarty trail

Weapon's Amnesty will bid for his first Grade One success over fences in the Dr. P.J. Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown next month.

The Charles Byrnes inmate made it third-time lucky over the larger obstacles at Newcastle before being beaten just a short head by Pandorama in the Knight Frank Novice Chase.

"He ran very well over Christmas and all being well, the the Moriarty is the plan for him," said Byrnes.

"He jumped very well the last day and I think that trip to Newcastle was a big help to him as they are stiff fences round there and it taught him a lot.

"I don't think the ground matters that much to him and after the Moriarty, hopefully he'll go back to Cheltenham for the RSA Chase."

Byrnes also confirmed that his dual Grade One-winning mare Cailin Alainn has seen the racecourse for the last time after being retired to the paddocks. The 11-year-old was well beaten on her final appearance in the William Hill Trophy at last year's Cheltenham Festival.

"She's retired now and I believe she is in foal to Presenting at the moment," the trainer added.
