McGoldrick Shocker Saves The Bookies

Punters and bookmakers ended the second day of the Festival on level terms with the pendulum swinging first one way then the other on an historic 10-race card.

From the pulsating Royal & SunAlliance Chase triumph of 4-1 favourite Albertas Run under Tony McCoy to the stupendous Queen Mother Champion Chase triumph of Master Minded and an emotional third victory for Inglis Drever in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle, the punters had plenty to cheer about.

But sandwiched in between the feature races came shocks such as that of 66-1 chance Mister McGoldrick in the Racing Post Plate and Ballyfitz, an 18-1 winner of the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle Final.

Kate Miller, PR for William Hill, summed it up when observing: "From the hammer-blow of AP´s first winner at the meeting to Inglis Drever´s emotional World Hurdle win, we rallied with the likes of Mister McGoldrick who really stopped the flow.

"Master Minded wasn´t as disastrous as we thought owing to the late support that made Voy Por Ustedes favourite. It was swings and roundabouts all the way and there wasn´t much in it at the end."

David Stevens of Coral said: "Master Minded, Albertas Run and especially Inglis Drever were extremely popular winners, but the rest of the card went our way. Honours were divided at the end of a marathon day."
