Billy Lee wins with a bit of Swagger Billy Lee Swagger recorded a third career win when taking the €30,000 McHale Mayo Handicap Hurdle in decisive fashion at Ballinrobe. The Philip Rothwell-trained gelding was far from disgraced last time at the Punchestown Festival but was easy-to-back in the market and drifted out to 14/1. Tiernan Power Roche’s mount made headway approaching the straight and quickened clear bypassing the final hurdle to soon settle the issue. The seven-year-old kept on strongly to beat Jacovec Cavern by eight lengths with Thornleigh Frank a further four lengths back in third. Collaborative completed the placings in fourth. Power Roche said, “He'd quite an impressive run in Punchestown where he was seventh in a good handicap. “He likes a bit of dig in the ground, but they've done a great job watering and he just barely got away with it. “He jumped and travelled well. He wears the blinkers and is a bit of a monkey who keeps a bit for himself. I had to send him on when I did because if you disappointed him and he was swallowed up by something, he mightn't find much for you. “So I let him roll on and he winged what was the last, and was game to the line. It's a great pot to win.” Quotes by Mark Nunan
