Northern Hope Whiskey In Great Shape
Malcolm Jefferson was delighted with Tot O'Whiskey after he enjoyed a workout on nearby, but unfamiliar gallops, ahead of his run in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham on Wednesday.
The trainer took the unbeaten six-year-old on the short journey from his stables at Norton in North Yorkshire for a spin on his Malton neighbour Richard Fahey's facilities at Musley Bank, about four miles away.
'I took him and Roman Ark to Richard Fahey's for a change of scenery on his gallops,' said Jefferson of the Saddlers' Hall gelding, who is a 14-1 chance.
'He's very well and in good order. I've just kept him ticking over since his last win at Catterick.'
Jefferson is bidding for a second triumph in the Champion Bumper following the success of Dato Star 12 years ago.
'I've never had a runner since as I've not had one good enough until now,' he remarked.
Fergus King, who has partnered Tot O'Whiskey to all his three victories, keeps the ride.
'Fergus has done well on him and rides him at Cheltenham,' he said.
Jefferson is happy with the four-strong team he hopes to take to next week's Festival.
'I've got a very nice team this year. As well as Tot O'Whiskey, I have According To Pete in the Coral Cup if he gets in, Roman Ark in the Racing Post Plate and Calatagan (Grand Annual),' he added.
