Tyne Suffers Fatal Injury

Swift Thyne became the second equine fatality of the 2007 Cheltenham Festival when suffering an injury in the 137th Year Of National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup.

The Tom George-trained seven-year-old blundered and fell at the 20th obstacle in the amateur riders' event, incurring a spinal injury which proved to be fatal.

Davy Russell was also in the wars and was kept back after racing for medical supervision after falling from Cloudy Bays in the closing Pertemps Final.

The Irish rider was diagnosed with soft tissue damage and was found to be dehydrated.

Medical staff fitted him with a drip and kept him under supervision, although he was expected to be released later in the evening.
