Fenton expects Dunguib improvement

Philip Fenton is expecting Dunguib to improve enormously for his first run of the campaign at Gowran Park on Saturday.

The Stan James Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham next month is next stop for the 2009 Weatherbys Champion Bumper victor after he made a pleasing reappearance when winning the Red Mills Trial Hurdle.

"He's absolutely A1 and he'll freshen up for a couple of days," said County Tipperary-based Fenton.

"You couldn't complain with that. It was just what the doctor ordered.

"He was a under a cloud five weeks ago so I think it was quite a good performance.

"I have it in my head that he will come on leaps and bounds for the run. It has just sharpened him a bit and it was just what he wanted.

"The Champion is three weeks on Tuesday. He should be fine and he doesn't need a great deal of work anyhow.

"Saturday's race just fitted in perfect."

Dunguib can be backed at 14-1 for Champion Hurdle honours on March 15th.
