Trafford on track for Moriarty
Trainer Eamonn Sheehy is eyeing the Grade One Dr. P.J. Moriarty Novices Chase at Leopardstown on February 8th for his stable star Trafford Lad.
Trafford Lad has been in good form since reverting to the larger obstacles, winning three races, but was narrowly beaten at Leopardstown last time.
"He seems to be 100 per cent and we are very happy with him. He came out of the Leopardstown race very well. Hopefully he'll go to the P J Moriarty at Leopardstown," said the trainer.
"It's my opinion that he got there too soon last time. He is a horse that doesn't like being in front for too long and he idles when he gets there. He's the same on the gallops, he doesn't like going up the gallops in front."
Sheehy won't decide on future targets before the run in the Dr. P.J. Moriarty.
"We are going to see how the race at Leopardstown goes and then we'll make our minds up. We have other options as well but we would love to go to Cheltenham for the RSA Chase.
"We've never had a winner there so if we thought that we had a chance then we would go," said Sheehy.
